About MarkupMath
Pricing tools for trade contractors, built to be checked rather than trusted.
Why it exists
Most contractor pricing guidance comes attached to something being sold, and most free calculators hide their formulas. That is a bad combination for a number this important. Every calculation here is stated in plain arithmetic on the page it belongs to, with a worked example you can follow on paper.
If a worked example on this site does not reconcile, that is a bug and it matters. Tell us and it gets fixed.
How the numbers are handled
- Everything runs in your browser. Figures you type are never sent anywhere and never stored.
- Profit targets are applied as a margin on revenue, never as a markup on cost. That distinction is the whole point of the site and it is applied consistently in every tool.
- Where a page shows a reference figure drawn from public data, it names the source and the date it was captured.
Who publishes it
MarkupMath is published by Lou Lohman. Questions, corrections and disagreements about the math are all welcome at the contact page.
How it pays for itself
The tools are free and there is no account to make. The site earns from affiliate commissions when a reader chooses to buy software we link to. That arrangement, and its limits, is set out on the disclosure page.
